Timecode simulator
What this feature is for
Display SMPTE timecode during rehearsals and local-network tests. This reference is separate from the show clock.
Where to find it
Open the timecode controls in the Live/Next screen.
Steps
- Choose a frame rate (24, 25, 29.97 or 30 fps).
- Use Start (then Stop), Pause and Reset to control the simulation; the digits run continuously as soon as the simulation is started.
- Adjust speed (0.1× to 8×), offset or seek position if needed.
- Broadcast on the local network when other stations should follow in read-only mode.
What happens next
Following stations display the sender's timecode; their transport controls are disabled. The show clock separately measures elapsed show time since the start GO, excluding pauses.
Who can take action
The operator controlling the simulator; following stations view it read-only.
Common issues
- Show clock is not zero when idle: reset it.
- A follower cannot start the timecode: control it from the broadcasting station.
- The timecode is displayed but does not advance: check that the simulation is running (the button then shows Stop) and that this station is not following a remote broadcaster.
FAQ
Can timecode fire a cue?
No. Timecode never triggers GO; only an authorized person does so manually.
